With thanks to Richard's kind offer to add information to the Fiesta web site I am pleased to take this opportunity to pass on the following notes and information on building and product additions. It is hoped this page will be updated at regular intervals with hints and tips from builders and photo's of new and older boats.
I first took over production of the Fiesta from David Swain in November of 2002. My boat 251 was sailing at the end of the month and I was fantastically impressed with the performance from the first launch. David Swain and Stewart Wilkins have produced a small boat with outstanding sailing characteristics that I feel cannot be equaled.
Some minor changes have been made with the full approval of David, these were to make the building time quicker and simpler for first time owners. None of these changes have in any way detracted from the stricktly one design stipulation from the very first one built. The one design principle has been proven with no. 04 at last years Beal Park Fiesta Festival winning one of the races and sailed by Gregory King a 10 year old who was in his first year of sailing.
Any changes made other than those outlined in the building instructions and items included in the kit, including sails, lead and its overall depth are not allowed and will result in the boat becoming out of class in national events.
Please send me an sae. and boat number, if you would like a copy from the building manual of those elements that can be changed.
Building tip: from Les Jones 315. Locating the fin bolt hole through the deck when finally fitted can be a problem, Les used a torch shone up through the fin box and marked the point of light on the deck. Nice one Les.
Many thanks to Richard for his help with this space. Please send me photo's of your boat for inclusion in later notes on this site. Particularly interested in boats sailing in adverse conditions, I was sailing recently in strong winds (the 1m fleet refused to sail !!!) but I had my hands full at the time. Have fun with a Fiesta and avoid blood pressure !!!
